"Secret Weapon" Shortcut Code for Google Searches

Secret Weapon Shortcut Code for Google searches

Yes, there are many simple possible conditions and variations. The big problem is the loads of nitpicky conditional typing detail. So I use a blank “search string” template that fits almost any search I’d ever want to make. It’s:

+() +() +() +() - - -            (Now you simply add words nside parentheses or single words directly following minus signs)

I use Cut & Paste or a stored “macro key” to pop in that whole blank string with one keystroke. Then I can just fill in the current words I want to use. Note: Google ignores any blank parentheses or conditions.

A simple example: I want a recipe to cook turkey or chicken tonight, but I don’t have any carrots on hand. So….

+(recipe casserole bake) +(chicken turkey) +() +() –carrot -carrots -

Here’s a more complicated example search:

            +(Senate House legislation bill) +(hospital medical health) +(single-payer “public option”) +() -  -  -

This isn't that hard to understand. I’m looking for any documents about “legislation dealing specifically with medical or health reform but they must contain information about the public option health insurance.” Using this query, I will get a huge number of hits because of the wide news coverage. But those documents will be pretty much what I want. The right "conditions" let you really pinpoint your results to get exactly what you want.

Narrowing it down: For example, if I really want only the items mentioning Bernie Sanders, but not with anything about Joe Lieberman, that’s easy to add in:

+(Senate House legislation bill) +(hospital medical health) +(single-payer “public option”) +(sanders ) –(lieberman)

This little quickie “stored search-string” trick should really help with your Google searching. Hope it works for you.
